The Misanthrope

A Cape Buffalo that I saw in central Serengeti at a mudhole with several other bulls. They are one of the Big Five and often considered the most dangerous animal in Africa, although Myles Turner, the famed warden in Serengeti for many years, wrote that they are mostly harmless unless wounded or surprised. In any case they are a formidable mass of muscle, bone and horn and just a delight to paint. A 2025 Almanera Art Prize finalist.
